Unit I: Space Exploration

The Project for this unit is also the final!

There are two parts to your final in my class:

Part 1 will be to build a model of a space exploration mission and present information about that mission to class on finals day.

Part 2 is a take-home final that will be given out next Friday. It will be to correct your pre-test that you took in September, more information later.

You may choose your group, but not your model. I will print them out at home and give them to you in class. They really do need to be printed on cardstock!

Here is a bit more description of what will be expected:

Completion of Paper Model

  • Cut out and build your paper model, color if necessary.

Description of Craft

  • What was it supposed to do? What tools does it have on it? Was this an engineering first for anything?

Contribution to Science/Expected Contribution

  • What have we learned from this craft? Did we learn anything unexpected? How does it fit into the current space paradigm? What are we expected to learn/find out/count?

Mission Specific Information

  • This is your “opportunity” to delve into that particular craft and get interesting things about that one that may not pertain to others. This could include politics involved, who was involved, …? Get creative and learn something about it to tell the rest of us! I’m looking for you to teach ME something.

Presentation to Class

  • You will present your model to the class and describe all of the above information in a 3-6 minute presentation on finals day. You may make a poster or PowerPoint of information if it helps you stay on topic. (And I like pictures J) All group members must present.

Cooperation with Peers

  • Don’t be “That guy.” Do your part.
  • Groups of no more than 3. If you would like to work by yourself, I’m not going to stop you, but you may want help cutting things out and gluing them together.
